Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda and Volcanoes National Park
Rwanda neighbors Uganda and is a sovereign state located in Central and East Africa. It is one of the smaller countries on the continent and sits south of the Equator by a few degrees. Rwanda is neighboured by Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The region is elevated in geography with mountains to the west and open savannah to the east.
Rwanda has made a remarkable transformation since the terrible genocide that took place in the mid-1990s. Today, without question, Rwanda is one of the most interesting places to visit in Africa.
Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is arguably the biggest draw in Rwanda because of its up close and personal Mountain Gorilla experience. With specific permitting and rules, there are opportunities in this park for gorilla trekking, which many visitors deem a life-changing experience.
Akagera National Park
One of Rwanda’s only “Big Five”protected areas, Akagera National Park is undergoing a radical transformation after having been devastated during the genocide over 30 years ago. More recently they have reintroduced lions, endangered black rhinoceros, and other wildlife to bring back the glory days of this incredible preserve.
